New Year Resolution

It's that time of the year again, new year means new resolutions. Losing weight, getting healthy and working out top the list of resolutions year after year, but how many people actually stick to this resolutions? Well a number of studies have been done showing that 45% of adults make at least one resolution every year of those 25% don't even make it through their first week, 35% don't last the month and 6 months in 50% of those resolutions are gone and forgotten.
So why do people time and time again fail to follow through with their goals? One thing that comes to mind is the simple aspect of putting off your health and wellness routine. We all know that person, or maybe we are that person who starts their diet and exercise regime every week. As the weekend rolls around they make that statement "Monday I start losing weight, exercising, etc" but then by mid week, maybe even on Monday that dream is gone. Putting off your health for after the weekend, or for the new year is starting your whole routine off on the wrong foot.
Why does waiting that extra 2 days, 2 weeks or 2 months to start make any difference in your resolution for a new you? Why not start right away? By putting it off and not starting right away your instilling in yourself a bad habit of putting your routine on hold when something comes up that may be a challenge for your new lifestyle. There is always something coming up to deter your goals and making excuses to start after they're over is not realistic. All of the holidays clumped together in the fall and winter (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, New Years) makes it an easy excuse to start after. But what about birthday parties, summer BBQs (Memorial Day, 4th of July), Easter, etc? There is always another holiday or celebration right around the corner that can be an excuse to break or put off your wellness goals. And if you are one of those people who put it off chances are you won't be able to make it through all those tough times. So start today and stick to it no matter what.
Here's to a healthy happy new year and a healthy happy new you.
